![]() We are closing off the year both immensely proud and excited for what's to come. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to OG's growth, and been a part of our community. Without all of you, none of our successes would be possible. And as we reflect on our accomplishments, we also believe its of the upmost importance to show gratitude to all who have come before us, partnered with us, believed in & supported us and have spearheaded complementary efforts to protect the planet and all it sustains. Many of our tools and resources, including The Blue Standard are reflective of these collective and ongoing learnings. We recognize that we are all on a continuous journey to be better in our work. The extraordinary stink which has been described as the stench of death is coming from a nearby canal where authorities say decomposing vegetation is sending off plumes of hydrogen sulfide. ~6 years later we're still slightly behind-the-ball on the splashy marketing piece, and so its with wholehearted excitement that I'm personally sharing with you some of our 2022 wins and high-level achievements to date. While other emerging ocean non-profits at the time focused their energy on forward-facing campaigns (that drew much needed attention to our shared missions!), we put our heads down to build infrastructure and tools, as well as to establish partnerships with existing and synergistic groups, with the objective to catalyze change across all levels of society. We noticed the immense potential to engage further demographics in an urgent and widely applicable cause, and set out to close gaps in knowledge, capacity, and collaboration so that everyone could create change within their own respective spheres of influence. We believe in protecting the ocean, not only as a means of protecting our blue planet, but also as a means of protecting humanity and our collective wellbeing.īefore we launched Oceanic Global, we considered how many nonprofits in the ocean conversation sector were limited in the ways for the public to be actively involved options were primarily to participate in a beach cleanup, sign a petition, attend a fundraiser, or pay thousands of dollars for a board seat. With the ocean accounting for over 50% of the oxygen we breathe, no matter who we are or where we live, we are all inherently oceanic. All volunteers who register for the cleanup through this link will receive an email the week of the cleanup with details on parking, weather, what to bring, and all other necessary details."Oceanic" means of or relating to the ocean. If you anticipate needing ability-related accommodations, please contact ahead of time. All United By Blue cleanups are ability inclusive. Our reusable cleanup supplies are industrially cleaned between uses, but we welcome volunteers to bring their own supplies if they feel more comfortable. While a mask is not required for this event, masks are welcome. This event is fully outdoors and efforts will be made to keep volunteer groups spread out.
